450 African asylum seekers moved to new detention centre, where they will be held indefinitely without charge.
i didn’t realize how exhausting it would be to sift through articles one by one by one and read up on horrifying acts the israeli government condones/does, but i’m so tired of having to see this same thing over and over. besides the gross nationalistic and racist overtones, you might like to hear these refugees are primarily, if not all, african jews from ethiopia, sudan, eritrea, and elsewhere along the red sea.
"The Israeli government says African migrants are a burden on the state, and threaten its Jewish character. The country’s policies, state officials have said, aim to deter the arrival of refugees at Israel’s borders, and deport the ones that already live in the country." (from the above article)
what this means is that israel reserves the right to deport, jail indefinitely, or turn away refugees and anyone that isn’t ethnically jewish, although it isn’t specifically stated that way. this law is called the “anti-infiltration law” passed by the knesset (israeli parliament) which is fitting, due to the connotations implied in the word “infiltration” — as if israel is being “invaded” by unwanted attackers, when all these people seek is political asylum. what they get is placed in overcrowded detention centers (meant to hold 8-9,000 when there are 54,000 refugees) where they are put on lockdown and not allowed to work outside the walls.
"apartheid" is the only fitting word to describe the israeli government’s actions against palestinians and african migrants, and south africa agrees. (that’s a very good article as well.) it’s worth mentioning that lawmaker miri regev, notable for his extremist views, calls african migrants “a cancer in the body” of israel, often a phrase used to describe palestinians. it is not going too far to use the term “ethnic cleansing” when african women immigrating to israel involuntarily get contraceptive injections. that’s eugenics, that’s basic eugenics, which brings to mind the practices of other nations and states that have carried out other horrific acts to their “undesirables” (see: lots and lots of countries). it’s incredible how the western, especially american, media turns a blind eye to this — and even makes palestinian civilians out to be the “bad guys” and “terrorists” when that simply is not the case.
because it’s, as of 2003, prohibited to donate to interpal, consider donating to the palestinian red crescent society, and to the red crescent society in general for their aid in syria and across the middle east and africa
